Despite the bear market of 2018, it appears that more blockchain-based companies than ever are teaming up with some of the most powerful and influential corporations in the world. Specifically, Playgame, a direct-to-play gaming platform where users can play for free, create their own competitions, and win pool prizes, has announced a one-year collaboration with The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia. The games will feature characters from the Disney franchise, as well. The collaboration was announced through a Medium post.
There is already some confirmed information about the collaboration. For example, Mickey Mouse (arguably Disney’s most famous character of all time) will be involved, as will the Olaf character from the hit movie “Frozen”, the massively successful 2013 computer-animated musical fantasy film that grossed over $1 billion dollars.
Specifically, one game will be “Mickey’s Delivery Dash”, which will feature Mickey Mouse on a quest to deliver croissants across Paris to Minnie Mouse’s cafe. Another game will feature Olaf attempting to search for his missing body parts.
Furthermore, the collaboration will exist across six countries in Southeast Asia: Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Both companies had positive things to say about the collaboration. Specifically, Anton Soeharyo, the CEO of PlayGame, stated: “We are delighted to announce this wonderful collaboration with The Walt Disney Company. Like millions of people all over the world, I am a huge fan of Disney myself. This is a very exciting collaboration, as our blockchain-powered decentralized gaming platform will encourage innovation and bring Disney’s well-loved creative products to the vast PlayGame community.
The Director and Head of Games Commercialization of Southeast Asia, Je Alipio, stated: “This collaboration with PlayGame provides more opportunities to bring our beloved characters and stories closer to Southeast Asian fans through high-quality interactive game experiences.”
